I Done Good

source

After 9 years of building up the courage I donated my first unit of blood last night.

It took 6 friends, 5 other 'donatees' and 1 to hold my hand, 2 hours and 30 minutes out of my day, an amusing questionnaire, 2 glasses of 7up, a purple snack, a bag of cheese and onion Taytos, 2 plasters and an IBTS employee who thought that I was strange for bringing a friend with me to talk about shoes while they were inserting and removing the needle.

And I thought that I would feel better afterwards. Everyone said that I would get a warm, fuzzy feeling from doing something good, and to think of all the babies, motorcyclists and sick people that I would be helping. But I feel nothing - well not true, my arm feels a little heavy and I have a square bruise on my right arm - but I don't feel like I have done anything extraordinary at all.

Please tell me some of your stories from the first time you donated blood. Did you feel all warm and fuzzy?

Things I Love Thursday

source

Not Wearing Socks - Yea for spring time, yea for it not raining and yea for finally being able to wear shoes without putting on socks or tights. My poor feet always feel so claustrophobic when wearing socks and now they can be free again. There are few things able to complete with the joy of being able to kick off your shoes under your desk and wiggle and scrunch up your toes.

Finally Feeding Myself - In the past few months I have gotten into the habit of NEVER cooking. I either bought food or I just grazed on snacks all day instead. It wasn't good for me, it wasn't economical and it wasn't very tasty either. Tuesday evening I gave myself a kick up the backside and cooked simple, easy, wholesome, nourishing, tasty pasta bake. And I even made sure to make enough to bring as lunch for a few days too. Even though it was a small step... I feel a little smug with myself.

Amelie - The movie, the soundtrack, the settings, the dialogue, the everything. If you haven't seen it you are missing out.

Honourable Mentions - Alpen Strawberry and Yogurt bars - fruity, creamy nom-ness, Glee being back on TV - oh overblown, irritating American teenagers how I have missed you, the new terrier on Farmville looking exactly like my dog at home, platform sandals

Confessional

Ok, so I thought that I might have a regular thing for the blog - where I confess to things. Some things may be shameful, some things may not. You will have to tune in to find out.

We'll start things off slow...

Until last Saturday morning I have never - EVER - eaten marmalade. In my 27 years on this earth I have resoundingly refused to eat, touch or think about marmalade. It may have been that as a child I associated it completely with being an adult and enjoying adult-like breakfast foods, like porriage and coffee and kippers on toast, whereas all I wanted was a bowl of Frosties or Ready Brek and some Kulana juice.

So Saturday morning as I had some tea and toast with my dad I reached for the marmalade jar on the kitchen table. I decided that it was time to join the world of adult taste buds. I spread it pretty thinly on my toast and bit in, and do you know what. It wasn't so bad. Now I don't think that I would be getting up in the middle of the night to enjoy some but if marmalade was offered I might not say no the next time.

Althought the whole peel issue still has me thrown.

Are there any foods that you hated as a child that you still won't eat, even though you don't know what they taste like? Why?

Summer Love

source

What do you love most about the spring and summer months?

Is it the long stretch in the evenings, the fact that you can eat ice cream at any time of the day, wearing lightweight clothes without having to worry about tights, getting your toes out in some funky sandals? For me the summer is all about wearing sunglasses. I love them!

Gossip Guys

source

Aren't the boys of Gossip Girl awfully pretty looking? Now I'm all for the metrosexual male, I highlight the benefits of moisturing to all my guy friends, I comment on the cut of their jeans and the fit of their shirt but enough is enough...

Women, well this woman at least, want a REAL man. A man who looks like he could whip his top off and change the oil in a car, a man who looks like he could mow the lawn, a man who could climb a tree to get your kitty back for you.

Real men have stubble sometimes, and mussed up hair and calluses on their hands from doing manly things - GRRRR!

BUT... before all you guys out there stop shaving and showering there is a limit on how manly I like my men. Fingernails must be clean and short, unibrows must be controlled, bodies should not be smelling of a whole can of lynx. It is a fine line that you must tread - tread carefully.

What are the dealbreakers when it comes to men? How metro is too metro?

Have you come across the amazingly cute illustrations created by Fabo yet? Aren't they adorable?

I especially love the penguin... and the hedgehog, and the chimp.
To be honest I love all of them.

Things I Love Thursday

Changeable Weather - I know most people hate the rain and wind and sleet and snow and sun style weather we've been having lately but I think that there is nothing as lovely as curling up in bed listening to the rain hammer against the windows, pulling back the curtains to watch huge flakes of snow falling out of the sky, and waking up in the morning to find everything washed away and ready for another day. It's so very refreshing.

Mini Adventures - I have a dream - where one day we will head to IKEA with thermos flasks full of hot tasty beverages. We will buy some cheap IKEA mugs and return to the showroom, where we will sit in one of the show living rooms and offer tea and coffee, maybe even hot chocolate, to everyone who comes into our 'house'.

McSteamy - No reasons needed.

Honourable Mentions - this water - it is so tasty, I particularly love the lemons, limes and spring water flavour, bagels - I have fallen back in love with a bagel and cream cheese breakfast, new haircuts, easter eggs and lots of chocolate this weekend - guilt free, filling my new 1TB drive with tons and tons of TV shows
